How to get started with Global Plant Kitchens

If you’re new to the Global Plant Kitchens platform, or looking for a refresh, we have shared a new introductory video to the programme.

Global Plant Kitchens was created to share the journey of the UK’s first vegan community cookery school, Made In Hackney, to support other individuals and groups that wanted to follow a similar path. Anywhere in the world – not just the UK.

There are no catches with this programme. It’s free and open to anyone. We just want to share the power of a plant-based community food movement! If you’ve already looked round the website, you might be familiar with the set up: 12 open learning, self-paced modules, a toolkit of resources and example documents you might need, and a mentoring programme for plant-based groups or individuals.

When you register for the website you will get access to the modules (written and recorded content, audio files, examples and resources). In your first couple of weeks someone from the team will reach out to you to see how things are going. Please do respond – even if you haven’t started a project, we love to just chat through ideas! If you have any questions before we get in touch you can email sareta@madeinhackney.org.

If you’re interested in mentoring, please also contact Sareta. This is open to any group that is genuinely looking to start (or already has started) a plant-based community cookery project or kitchen. You might not be plant-based but are willing to work towards this as a service. The only limitation we have is that we do not mentor other kitchens in north or east London but do get in touch as there might be other ways we can support you.

To answer a lot of your questions we have created an Introduction to Global Plant Kitchens video, which features a Q&A with one of our recent mentee kitchens as the best person to hear from is someone who has gone through the programme themselves! In this session you can hear from mentor and programme manager, Sareta Puri, about how the programme works and how to get involved. Remember, we are here to help so please do get in touch if anything we do interests you.
